Work Hard and Put the Team First

Bill Belichick, coach of the New England Patriots, is considered to be one of the best in the history of the National Football League. Among his achievements are a record 31 playoff and six Super Bowl Victories.

Belichick is a complex and sometimes grumpy man with a simple winning philosophy. His favorite, and most well known axiom is: Do Your Job.

Hanging in the Patriots locker room is a sign that reads:

At Team Trek, the Belichick philosophy is consistent with all we teach: Do your job with character and competence. I have always believed that for a leader to be successful he/she must keep things simple and consistent.

One of Belichicks greatest attributes is his ability to thoroughly prepare his team for any situation that may present itself, before his players and coaches ever enter the game. He is very clear about his expectations, from each player and the team.

So, the most successful coach in NFL history keeps things simple by communicating clearly and developing the knowledge and competence of his players. He then relentlessly holds them accountable for doing their job. Another of his sayings: You are either going to do your job or you are not, and if you are not, maybe you are on the wrong team.
